Recent trends in boat design have aired towards creating hull-side windows so as to really open up the space below. The challenge remains to create ever larger windows yet which simultaneously accentuate the beauty and style of the yacht lines. Hullside windows are highly complex since they must follow the shape of the hull and be formed in such a manner they can be bonded to the landing on the hull. Bonding agents require minimum UV penetration, so usually a painted outer layer is also required, known as a frit.

Acrylico has introduced an acrylic with a special formulation blocking 99% of UV radiation, so the frit no longer needs to be applied on the outer surface; a problem in the past, since this tended to interfere with the cosmetic appeal of the vessel. Another positive attribute of this acrylic is its ability to block up to 45% of IR, (infrared heat waves), thereby greatly assisting yacht air conditioning systems, affording long term fuel savings.

The exterior of these windows are coated to a hardness comparable to glass and therefore not only resist scratching but also the myriad chemicals which might be washing down from the decks above. AcryliCo uses a Quality / Acceptance Standard from our aerospace background to determine the quality level of the products it supplies. These standards apply to helicopter windshields, thus elevating the bar once again within the nautical industry.
